Skinny model shakes up Spain"s fashion world

Back in 2006,Madrid Fashion Week made international headlines for introducing a pioneering ban on overly thin models from the catwalk.Organizers of the Spanish capital"s fashion show have since been looking to promote a healthier diet and fight anorexia by barring models with a body mass index a weight-to-height ratio lower than 18. For example,a model measuring 1.75 metres in height has to weigh at least 56 kilos. But their reputation has now been tarnished by Brand Spain"s catwalk at the European Parliament in Brussels last week. Spectators grimaced when a very slim model chosen for the Cook and Fashion show to the catwalk holding a mouth-watering snack."It would do her good to eat that tapa",was the main comment made by spectators, according to Catalan daily La Vanguardia."I knew this would be the reaction",fashion show organizer Lourdes Marino Catalan daily. "I didn"t personally choose her. A few days before the show one of the models twisted her ankle so we had to find a last-minute replacement. "Marino claimed skeletal bodies don"t fit her designs. She was also adamant that all of the other models chosen for the Brand Spain catwalk wouldn"t have been picked for Madrid"s Cibeles fashion week because they are too curvy.
