Hull"s teen models impress in London catwalk compe

A CATWALK beauty from Hull finished runner-up in a national modelling competition. Bruhca Howe,19,came second in the editorial category in Top Model UK and walked the runway at a dazzling final in London with fellow city model Kyle Green, who entered the men"s category. Bruhca also won the Style Award on the night after making her own Moulin Rouge-inspired outfit on her sewing machine at home. "I was so surprised to be named runner-up and even more shocked to win the Style Award. "There was so much competition and the girl who won had been involved in seven catwalk shows. "I was really worried about tripping over in my long blue dress and it was all a bit of a blur." Bruhca, who was encouraged to get into modelling by friends, she was met by "bright stage lights and flashing cameras" when she put her first heel on the catwalk. "It would be amazing and a dream come true,so hopefully I will get a lot out of this competition. "All of the girls wanted to swap numbers afterwards and I met a lot of fantastic people." Bruhca as well as family cheering her on during the night she had plenty of "congratulations" text messages from friends after the show at the Hilton Metropole. Both contestants Bruhca and Kyle wowed the judges and although Kyle did not make the cut,he chatted to professionals and gained insider knowledge of the competitive modelling industry. Kyle,20,studies history at the University of Hull and made it to the final 16 of more than 1,000 models who entered the competition. "We walked the runway in casual, formal and beachwear. "Putting the swimming trunks and sunglasses on was the most daunting but it wasn"t too bad. "At the end the judges were meant to take just 30 minutes to decide but they couldn"t make their minds up. "They ended up lining the contestants up to have another look at them and it took an hour." Despite not taking the title in the men"s category,Kyle got chatting to the judges at an after party following the grand final. "They me I had a lot of potential and that I should keep going to open castings in London. "My family were all there, including my mum and my girlfriend. "There were quite a few drunken speeches afterwards but it was a great weekend and I"m proud to have got so far in the competition."
